EASTERN HILLS UPDATE
Just when
you think that you have put something to bed, it
comes back to haunt you. We were somewhat surprised
when the article on the most recent Eastern Hills
purchase attempt appeared in the Gazette. Though
the Elks Lodge had not approved the purchase plan,
and the City of Kalamazoo hasn’t agreed to sell, the
Gazette certainly made it sound like a deal was
signed, sealed, and delivered.
As of this writing,
the Elks approved a plan to move ahead (in a 33-32
vote) with their proposal but the City of Kalamazoo
has not received an offer. In a meeting with City
Manager, Ken Collard, I was told that if indeed he
received a bona fide offer to buy Eastern Hills for
5 million dollars, he would be obliged to take the
offer to the City Commission. The Commission has
never said it would sell the course but only that
they would consider selling at the right price.
Nothing will happen,
as it pertains to the golfing public, to Eastern
Hills in the 2007 season. It is possible that the
2008 season won’t be touched either. There is no
guarantee that anyone will show up on City Hall’s
doorway with a five million dollar check. The
reality is, no one really knows so we go about our
business as we always have.
As we receive
information, we will pass it along in the most
expeditious way possible. Let us know your opinion
or don’t be afraid to pass your opinion along to the
Manager’s office. Most importantly, lets not give
up on Eastern Hills and it operating as it always
has.
