SPRING NEWSLETTER—MARCH 11, 2005 On
behalf of the entire golf staff, the maintenance department, and the Board
of Governors we would like to welcome everyone to the 2005 golf season.
Though the weather hasn’t cooperated as of yet, we are just a few
weeks away from returning to our favorite pastime.
The
golf shop at Milham Park is now open Monday-Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until
6:00 p.m. and we invite you to stop by and say hello.
You can purchase your 2005 membership, preview a lot of the new
merchandise, and rekindle some of your golfing relationships.
Please
take a few moments to peruse our opening newsletter.
If you have any questions give us a call.
Let us all start thinking spring and before we know it we will be
back on the links.
-Jim Roschek- INCLUDED IN THIS NEWSLETTER: MILHAM PARK PRO SHOP NEW ARRIVALS
Did
you hear the rumor that Eastern Hills was sold?
We did!! We wanted to
take a minute and let you know just what is going on.
The City of Kalamazoo is evaluating many scenarios that will assist them in providing the maximum amount of services to the community. We all know that all cities have experienced revenue reduction and reduced funding from State government. In lieu of drastic cuts across the board, the City Administration is looking at a variety of avenues to raise revenues. One of these avenues is the sale of properties the City owns. Some properties the City owns are protected by statute and can’t be sold. Others could be made available for sale and Eastern Hills happens to be one of them.
There have been some preliminary inquiries about Eastern Hills from both public and private interests. Is it possible that Eastern Hills could be sold? Absolutely! Is any sale imminent or on the table? Absolutely not! The 2005 season is safe and by the end of this season the evaluation process that the Administration is going through will be able to offer us its findings. Our City Manager, Pat DiGiovanni, has recently authorized the purchase of new equipment at Eastern. That, in itself, should signal the status quo for now.
What can you do to help? Play lots of golf and bring friends when you play. A vibrant, successful golf operation will go a long ways in the determination of sale or no sale.
At the February Board of Governors meeting of the Kalamazoo Municipal Golf Association the governing board made some changes to our existing tee time policies. We have written the whole policy below but wanted to go through the two major changes for you. First, tee times will now be taken the Monday prior to the weekend. Secondly, we used to take tee times from noon until 7:00 pm weekdays during the summer at Milham Park. Now all weekday play will be first come, first serve.
We have contracted with some leagues on a limited basis for the 2005 season. Leagues will have the use of one nine on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays at Milham Park. They begin approximately 5:00 p.m. and run to around 6:15 p.m. Mondays and Fridays remain completely open.
RANGE CARDS OBSOLETEUsers of our range debit cards at Milham Park will be pleased to learn of our new e-Range Key System that we will be implementing in the next week. Once the key system is operational, all debit cards will become obsolete. No worry, the full amount left on your debit card will be credited to the new system.
