TOURNAMENTS:  Sign up for the Member-Member 2-man scramble at Eastern Hills on Saturday, May 11th.  Entries are available online at www.kalamazoogolf.org or at the golf shops at Milham and Eastern.  Entry deadline is Thursday, May 9th.

MOTHER’S DAY SALE:  Our pro shops have a wide selection of gifts for Mom!  Choose from newly arrived apparel from EP Pro, Tommy Hilfiger, and Izod or golf shoes from Nike, Foot-joy, Etonic, Bite and Dexter.  How about a new set of clubs?  Consider a gift certificate for golf lessons from one of our talented golf professionals.  Don’t forget Mom on her special day, May 12th.

DEMO DAYS/CLUBFITTING/INSTRUCTION:  Join our professional staff every Thursday and Saturday during the month of May at the Milham Range to demo new clubs, get custom fit, or get some free tips on your golf game.  Our professional staff will be on hand Thursday’s from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday’s from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. to give you that personal advice and service we all are seeking.  We will have our seven custom fitting systems available at the Milham Range to allow you to demo the industry’s latest equipment and improve your game.

PLAY GOLF AMERICA:  Sign up for a free 10-minute golf lesson with PGA Professional Jim Roschek on Saturday, May 11th at Milham Park.  Jim has joined with over 3,000 other PGA Professionals from across the country in a national Growth-of-the-game campaign.  Play Golf America is a wonderful opportunity for local non-golfers to come out and get introduced to the game of golf, or for existing golfers to focus on any area they want to improve.  Check out the May issue of Golf Digest or call the golf shop at Milham Park for more information (344-7639).

MEMORIAL TREES AND BENCHES:  From time to time we are approached about hosting some type of memorial for an individual who has had close ties to one of our golf courses.  We have developed a program where you can remember a loved one by purchasing a tree or a bench with a memorial plaque attached.  Contact Jim Roschek for more details.  Shecky4@aol.com

GOLF STAFF:  As I begin my 23rd year with the KMGA, the golf staff shapes up to be one of the best ever and they are ready to serve your every golfing need.  After a three-year stint at Eastern Hills, Jeff Rohrstaff moves to Milham Park joining mainstay PGA professional Dean Marks to form a formidable leadership pair.  Fresh from the links in Florida, Mark Bouw and Bill Yates join the Milham crew to round out the professional staff.  At Eastern Hills, Mike Hill joins Chad Gaston.  Both are personable and talented professionals ready to tackle the challenges of that busy 27-hole layout.  All six of these gentlemen are available for instruction, club fitting, information on the courses and rules, or just to chat about this great game we play.

And let’s not forget our talented greens staff.  Ron Williams takes over for departed superintendent Skip Heinz.  Ron has been with us for two years and is a Michigan State University turf graduate.  Assisting Ron this summer will be 24 year veteran Wayne Nye at Milham Park and the very capable Brian Morgan at Eastern Hills.  I will talk more about our grounds crew in future newsletters.

PERSONAL THOUGHTS:  As I begin my twenty-third year as your golf professional I feel really blessed to be part of such a wonderful organization as the Kalamazoo Municipal Golf Association.  To be the Director of Golf for the KMGA is an honor I don’t take lightly and I will continue to pledge to each of you my 100% effort to make our courses the best they can be.
