Navigating Competitive Junior Golf Seminar March 29, 2008

The Michigan PGA is conducting a "Navigating Competitive Junior Golf" seminar on Saturday, March 29th, 2008 from 9:00am to 12:00pm at Eagle Eye Golf Club. Lunch will be provided following the seminar as well as reduced golf rates at Eagle Eye that day for those attending the seminar. This seminar is designed to help junior golfers and parents become better educated on competitive junior golf and how to position themselves to be recognized by college coaches and obtain scholarships.

A few of the program highlights include: Sam Puryear Jr., Michigan State University Men's Golf Coach, will speak about the college recruiting process and provide an inside look into the college golf experience. Matt Larson, AJGA Midwest Regional Director, will talk about competitive junior golf and how to gain access into AJGA events.

We are asking that you please pass this information on to your junior golfers, their parents, and local high school coaches. Click HERE
for a flier with program highlights and additional speaker information. Registrants can sign up at online at www.michigan.pga.com, under the junior tour link.

We appreciate your help in promoting this event as well as our Michigan PGA Junior Tour sponsored by Carl's Golfland and Nike Golf to all of your junior golfers.

JGA Scholarship and Fundraising Information

Each year, graduating seniors compete for one of the $1,500 JGA scholarships that will be awarded directly to the college or university of their choice. Historically, two scholarships have been given in honor of John Block. Beginning in 2008, two more scholarships have been added - one honoring Jim Roschek and one in memory of Heidi Krum.  A new application form will be online soon and a fundraising drive is on to increase the number of scholarships the JGA is able to give out.  Look for information on the JGA web site and a donation envelope in the JGA Newsletter.

The Kalamazoo Community Foundation has a $500 Evelyn Prince Memorial Scholarship available to a Female graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or attends a Kalamazoo County high school or a high school that participates in the Greater Kalamazoo High School Women's Golf Tournament. Must have been a member of the high school varsity golf team for at least her junior and/or senior year; planning to pursue a four-year degree as a full-time student; minimum 2.5 GPA; demonstration of school and community involvement.  Deadline to apply is March 31.  Visit www.kalfound.org for this and many other scholarship opportunities.

The Michigan PGA Growth of the Game Committee has announced a fundraiser for the Michigan PGA Foundation. Proceeds will go toward Growth of the Game activities, Growth of the Game Grants and Junior Program Grants. (The JGA has received grants from the Michigan PGA Foundation). Hats can be purchased at Grand Prairie Golf Course for $20.
