2006 John Block - JGA Scholarship Winners Announced Seven Get
Scholarships A record number of area students have been awarded the John Block Junior Golf Association Scholarship. Seven graduating seniors from seven different area high schools were selected from among 14 applicants to receive $1,000 scholarships toward their college educations. The 2006 scholarship winners, the schools from which they graduated and the schools they will attend in the fall include: Todd Capron (Gull Lake High School/Grand Valley State University), Ryan Hayes (Portage Northern/University of Michigan), Lee Keselowski (Schoolcraft/University of Toledo), Nick Morcum (Plainwell/Ferris State University), Samuel Neff (Kalamazoo Central/Michigan State University), Brian Ogrin (Hackett Catholic Central/Kalamazoo Valley Community College), and Ryan Zwier (Kalamazoo Christian/Cornerstone University). Criteria for consideration as a recipient include academic accomplishments, JGA participation, good citizenship and participation in activities beyond sports and school. Since the JGA Scholarship was instituted in 1997, 30 area graduates have been awarded one-year stipends at an expenditure of $38,500. (article reprinted by permission)
